Producer Forwarding Contracting (PFC) is a web application for trading futures and options. It is used by brokers that create future and option contracts between farmers and buyers on the milk commodities market.

CONCEPT

Producer Forwarding Contracting is a single fully automated solution to trade with milk commodities on the mercantile exchange. It is a way for producers to set prices for milk to be delivered in the future. With this solution, producers manage risk without the cash outlay of maintaining their own futures account. It is an arrangement between producers and cooperatives/plants.

This solution is a cloud-based tool that enables FC Program management, month-end reports, pulling daily market prices, producer interaction, and order execution to find the “best fill”.

VALUE

PFC brings brokers and contracts to one place by allowing them to make trades with commodities based on futures and options. With continuous reporting and daily market prices in near real-time, this dashboard manages hedge balances and buying and selling options. It also allows placing pooled and non-pulled futures orders to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange because the application is connected to the stock market via API.

PROCESS

Confluence pages with project documentation have been created. That was a basis for ERA modeling. Each functionality from the documentation has been developed within a series of two-week SCRUM sprints. Each functionality has been demoed and feedback has been gathered from the Subject Matter Expert.

Since the solution required third-party integrations, we have arranged a set of meetings and consulted integration documentation. Infrastructure has been carefully designed in the AWS ecosystem. The quality of the solution has been ensured through continuous code reviews, integration testing, and QA manual testing practices.
